Music used for 'Love Triangle'

Within Love Triangle, two very different style of music was requested to connote the storyline of the film and as an effect for the audience.

At first the song was an upbeat and happy song where Charlotte is at home, getting ready for school and when she is with her friends. The song was called Cut and Dry. This music was chosen to represent Charlotte's personality of happy and bubbly. The music was used as an effect and to create Charlotte's character within the film. In teenage angst films upbeat and happy music is used when the characters are either partying or happy, such as in 'Foot loose' upbeat and happy music is used in the opening scene when they are dancing on the stage. From researching teenage angst films, I have learned that it is important that the music fits in with what is happening on the screen so they can both link together to create the whole storyline of the film which effects the audience when watching it.

However, when the 'popular' group collide with Charlotte the music changes. The music goes from upbeat and happy to slow, sad and tension, this suggests the relationship Charlotte has with Yasmin. The music change was specifically chosen when the two girls collided to suggest to the audience their relationship, throughout while this song is played, a flashback occurs which tells the storyline of Charlotte's and Yasmin's relationship and the music is played at a slow pace to back up the storyline. Therefore, after learning the music is the most important effect within a film, the pace of the music had to change when the popular group was introduced.

Settings/Locations

Charlotte's Bedroom

Our first setting in our film is Charlotte's bedroom, we chose this because it is a stereotypical teenage girls bedroom, with the girly bed covers, curtains, perfumes, mirrors and pictures with the colour such as; pinks and greens. When Charlotte is in her room, she is getting out of bed, putting her slippers on, getting dressed and doing her hair which is a stereotypical thing for a teenager to do in the mornings before going to school.

Kitchen, stairs and Front door

We also used the kitchen within my house, this was to show Charlotte eating breakfast and having juice in the morning which is stereotypical of a teenager to do in the morning before going to school. In order to change rooms, shot of Charlotte going down the stairs were filmed which gave the audience an understanding of Charlotte's house. Charlotte also walks out the door which suggests her leaving her house to go to school.

Field next to little astro and the car park for the school

The field next to little astro was used which is located at the back of our school. We chose this setting and it just suggests the girls walking to school and is also where Charlotte meets her three best friends. This worked out well as it was right next to the school car park, which worked well when filming Yasmin. Charlotte and Yasmin collide when Charlotte's walked over the field and Yasmin has pulled up in her car. This was an idea that was changed when filming as Yasmin pulling up in her car emphasised her 'popularity' with her friends waiting for her to turn up. This location is where it becomes uncomfortable for Charlotte and where the flash back happens to inform the audience of the story between Yasmin and Charlotte, with this knowledge makes the title name understandable.

Targets Audience of Love Triangle

My film 'Love Triangle' has the target audience of 13-18, I choose this target audience simply because it is the teenage age. With the target audience being similar ages to the characters within the film, Charlotte who is 15, Blake who is 17 and Yasmin who is 18 suggests the audience is better at understanding the film. This can be because they either relate to the story themselves or they have seen the situation happen, this can be more effective for the audience as they'll be able to understand what is happening.

Our Characters after a change of plan within the film

With the new idea, we decided to change characters and when it came to getting everyone to film it was impossible, therefore we used fewer characters.

We continued with the 'popular' girl Yasmin who is being played by Leah Fowles. The popular guy 'Blake' is being played by Harry Shipp. With Blake having one best friend; Joe who is being played by Jack Payne and Yasmin having two best friends Gemma who is played by Farah Khan and Lucy who is played Lily Shepphard. Therefore we got rid of Blake's two best friends and just left him with one called Joe and left out one of Yasmins bestfriend. This was done because getting everyone together to film was difficult therefore, the decision to lower the number of characters was the best decision. Yasmin was left with two best friends and Blake only had one emphasises her power and 'popularity'.

'Love Triangle'- Change of Characters and Plan

With our first draft back with feedback, the decision of re-planning and changing the plans a little bit to make it work easier and better were made.

The first decision was the number of characters and I decided that the least characters we had would be easier to arrange to film, quicker to get everyone together to film and better to organise everyone and everything during filming. Charlotte still had her three best friends, Sophie, Katy and Courtney to show the 'least' popular social group.

The characters decisions were made within the 'popular' social group, Yasmin originally had three best friends, Gemma, Emily and Lucy, however, we decided Yasmin should have two best friends, Gemma and Lucy. Taking away the character Emily just made less people and also within the teenage angst film 'Mean Girls' Regina George the 'popular' girl only had two best friends. Blake was also originally had three best friends, Ben, Jake and Joe, this was changed to just the one best friend Joe who's description was changed to dark brown hair with brown eyes. These changes of characters made it easier to get all the characters together out once to film, also within the shots there were less people and therefore made it easier to identify the different social groups.
